A tomboy and an unpolished stone from Montana's mountain wilderness, Sarah Stone marries her Montana University sweetheart, Chad, a student from South Africa.
After Chad's graduation, they return to his family's cattle ranch in the African bush, adopt a native orphan and defeat renegade native's cruel attacks on the helpless.
They build a hospital, church, help natives live better lives and are game wardens. Surviving an airplane crash, Sarah and an inured Chad confront the deadly bush and desert and Chad dies. Sarah's work continues in the bush and on the ranch. She finds new love, a dashing Army captain, valting her exciting adventures, and returns to Montana's mountains as a polished jewel.
